Guides
These are long-form articles that I have written for the JetPens blog. They are designed to introduce the reader to a subject or help them make the best purchase for their needs. An important consideration for all of these articles is to make them engaging enough to hold the interest of casual readers from start to finish while also making them easy to navigate for people with more specific interests and questions. I’ve spent years refining and iterating our techniques along with the rest of the JetPens writing team, and while there is always room for further improvement, I think our SEO rankings speak for themselves.
I produce all of my articles from outline to HTML. The only job I don’t handle myself is the photography and photo editing, which is taken care of by the exceptionally skilled JetPens photography team. Still, I make sure to work closely with the photographers to ensure that the visual content of my articles blends seamlessly with the written content.

Tutorials
These are shorter articles focused specifically on showing readers how to perform specific tasks. While they may not be as grand in scope as my larger guides, they require no less skill and thought. Much like good customer service, a good tutorial requires a writer who understands both the skills being conveyed and the readers who will be using the tutorial. In addition to using clear, concise language, I work hard to give all of my tutorials a friendly and inviting tone in every way possible—from the way I word things to the colors I have our photographers use in the visual content.
Product Descriptions
Writing product descriptions is a big part of my job at JetPens. We typically release 10+ new product lines every week, so there’s never a shortage of work to be done. Along with good photography, product descriptions are an essential part of a good first impression of a product. It’s a fun and often challenging task to tease out the essential information and fun facts about a new product and present them in a way that lets the reader know at once whether they should buy it.
Another fun challenge is finding the right tone for each description. JetPens does of course have an overarching style and tone that we work hard to maintain, but there’s still plenty of room for fine-tuning based on the product itself. For example, is the product cutesy or prestigious? Is it familiar and utilitarian, or does its novelty need to be explained a bit? Does it have a special backstory or inspiration?
